interim Principal, diane r. thompson

Dear Miraloma Community,

Welcome to Miraloma Elementary School - I’m so excited that you’re here!

My name is Diane Thompson and I am the Interim Principal for the 2023-24 school year.  While this is my first year being a principal, I have a long history at Miraloma as I used to teach the 3-5 Special Day Class for many years starting back in 2007.  It has been a joy and a pleasure to be back with my Miraloma family.

For this interim year I am committed to supporting all the expertise in the building and the amazing work that this staff of educators has already been doing. We will continue to prioritize high-quality teaching and learning in service of student success and wellness. We will continue to build upon the work started last year towards interrupting inequities, and cultivating a school community where everyone feels a sense of belonging. Whether I’m wearing the hat of a teacher, coach, or principal,  it is always my goal to ensure that all students, especially our most vulnerable students, receive the highest quality education, become lifelong learners, and become the best version of themselves. My experience early in my career taught me that while success looks different from student to student, all students are capable of learning and thriving regardless of their race, ability, area code, gender, trauma or any other barriers that might typically be a predictability of success. I believe this in my core and I allow this belief to radically guide me in whatever space I’m in, so please know that when I’m in the room, this is my mindset.  With the right conditions and resources in place, we all can thrive and as community members we all have a role to play in the success of the students and the school so let’s work together to make this year Amazing.

One of the many great things that you can expect at Miraloma is to be welcomed and embraced by our amazing staff made up of teachers, paraprofessionals, and other certificated and classified staff like our Social Worker, Administrative Clerk, custodians, and other related service practitioners. In addition to that, you may have already been welcomed and contacted by our outstanding PTA who strengthen our community via engaging programs and fundraising. The true magic of Miraloma, though, happens when we all come together as a community - whether for Morning Circle, mileage club, or school-wide fundraising events - we are strongest and at our best alongside one another.

It is my honor and pleasure to welcome you to the Miraloma community.

Most Sincerely,
Diane R. Thompson, Interim Principal
