What is the Fun Run?

The Fun Run is a fundraising event where students participate in a Run-a-thon to earn money for the school. This super fun event marries Miraloma's fabulous community spirit, tests of physical endurance, and generous donations from family, friends and neighbors to help our school provide resources such as class size reduction, dance, arts, outdoor science, field trips, healthy snack program, free school supplies, teacher development, technology and facility improvements, and many other items that continuously improve the learning experience for all our children.

Get Ready for the Fun Run!

Event Schedule

10:00 am: Arrive at Balboa H.S. to set up your blanket, grab some coffee/pastries/pancakes, and get ready to run.
10:15 am: Stretching begins.
10:30 am: On your marks, get set, go --- The Fun Run begins! For safety reasons, students are lined up by grade starting with 5th graders. Parents and siblings, including babies in strollers, are welcome to run/walk on the track.
11:30 am: Check-out begins with laps recorded and medals distributed. Time for the picnicing!
If you don’t feel like making lunch—no problem! The bake sale will be selling hot dogs, pizza and other fun treats.

Volunteer

Sign Up to Volunteer! Make sure the Fun Run engine runs smoothly by signing up for a volunteer shift now. We will need plenty of parent volunteers to check runners in, hand out medals, run the bake sale, and more.

What to bring

  • Picnic for your family (savory goods are also available at the bake sale)

  • Reusable water bottles (water is provided)

  • Picnic blanket, chairs, sunscreen, hats, etc.

  • Cash for bake sale & coffee

  • Any medications you and your child may need

  • Your Fun Run t-shirt!

Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be food?
Yes -- lots.  There will be donation-based pancakes, pastries and coffee for sale in the AM, and there's food for purchase and donation (hot dogs, pizza, fruits & veggies, bottled water and bake sale items) after the race. Or, feel free to bring a picnic from home -- whatever works best for you! Kids can stay hydrated via water stations on the track and at the park's water fountains.

Does my kid have to run?
Only if they want! Walking is ok too - and family can run with the kids. Everytime the kids go around, they get a mark on their arms. It's pretty incredible to see the pride they take in collecting marks.

What's the setup for spectators?
There's lots of grass and room to spread out inside the Balboa High School track, as well as onsite bathrooms. There is not, however, much shade.  So bring your blankets, chairs, sun tents, sunscreen, hats and strollers. But, no pets.

Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately, there are no pets allowed at the Fun Run.
