WHAT IS THE RUN?

The Run is a school wide community event, and one of the major fundraisers at Miraloma.  It is styled like a walkathon where friends, relatives and co-workers sponsor our students as they jog around a quarter mile track. Everyone is welcome to run including family, relatives and friends. Our principal and lots of the teachers make their way around the track too. The Run is much more than a fundraiser. It's a fun, family day too. After the running we gather at centerfield where the entire school shares a potluck picnic. The Run is a perfect day to meet new friends and see old friends.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Each student or family asks sponsors to donate money for the Run. Sponsors may be friends, relatives or co-workers, or the family may sponsor its student. Sponsors may donate a flat amount which is turned in before the Run or at the Run, or sponsors may donate "per lap" where the total donation is determined after the laps are run. For example, if Uncle Lou donates $3 a lap for student Charlie, and Charlie runs 20 laps, then Uncle Lou owes Miraloma $60. Donations collected on a per lap basis are due approximately two weeks after the Run. All families are responsible for collecting donations from their sponsors. A "Pledge Form" will be provided in your child's "Run Packet" which will come home in the back pack. WHY DO WE HAVE TO FUNDRAISE?

Proceeds from the Run will provide a significant portion of the Miraloma PTA budget. The PTA funds many programs and positions that make Miraloma special.  Among the many things funded are the San Francisco Arts Education residencies (Dance, Rhythms, Chorus, Recorders, Ceramics, and Theater), Poetry, Gardening, extra professional development for the teachers, after school tutoring, and  funding for a literacy specialist.

WHAT SHOULD I SAY TO THE SPONSORS?

Tell your sponsors that federal, state, and local funding has declined so much so that schools have to raise money themselves to pay for basic things like books, a library, an art program and computers.

HOW MUCH SHOULD EACH FAMILY RAISE?

We ask that you simply do your best to help out the school. We know that so many families show support in such a variety of ways. So, the most important thing is to come and have fun and support your community. We are hoping to have 100% participation in making this an exciting and successful event for the entire community.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO THE RUN?

1. Pledge Sheet
2. Sponsor checks and cash
3. Potluck dish (potluck details)
4. Picnic blanket, sunscreen, camera etc. (water is provided)
5. Any medications you and your child may need
6. Cash for bake sale & coffee
7. $5 for sibling registration (to reserve a medal - limited supply available)

NOTE: NO PETS ALLOWED AT THE SITE

AT THE RUN, WHAT DO WE DO FIRST?

Start at the Registration tables. Registration is between 11:00 and

11:45. Be on time to register, since the running waits for no one. Next, find the picnic area at center field to drop off your dish. Listen for start time announcements. Running starts at 12:00 and ends at 1:00. The picnic starts immediately after. Eat a snack before the RUN - No eating early off the potluck tables! 

WHAT IF I CAN'T COME TO THE RUN?

Although you will be missed, your family can still participate by getting sponsors and turning in donations.

CAN ANYONE ELSE COME?

All family, friends and relatives are welcome to come support their Miraloma Student. Except the family dog. This is a people-only event. Siblings can RUN, and receive a medal, for an additional registration fee of $5. Ask at the registration table the day of the RUN.
